🌿 Welcome to YOUR Isopods, where passion meets nature! I'm thrilled to share with you the wonders of our extraordinary collection of Lemonade isopods – a unique and charming addition to your vivarium or terrarium.
1. Fun Fact: Porcellio scaber, better known as the "Lemonade Orin's Calico" Isopods, gained popularity because of their gorgeous yellow coloring and because THE Orin McMonigle created them!
2. Habitat Setup: Start with a well-ventilated terrarium or plastic container. The size of the enclosure will depend on the number of isopods you plan to keep. A secure lid is essential to prevent escapes. These guys enjoy warmer temperatures and dryer land. Create hiding spots using cork bark, coconut shells, or other natural materials. A mix of coconut coir, organic potting soil, leaf litter, and decaying wood provides a balanced substrate for moisture retention and burrowing. They need a light misting 1-2x a week. They do not do well in wet environments.
3. Feeding and Nutrition: Lemonade Isopods are detritivores, meaning they feed on decaying organic matter. Provide a varied diet consisting of leaf litter, decaying wood, vegetable scraps, and specialized isopod foods. Ensure a good source of calcium for proper exoskeleton development. Crushed eggshells, cuttlebone, or a dedicated calcium supplement can be sprinkled in the enclosure.
